CircBioCare Team participates in EuPA2025

From June 16 to 20, the CircBioCare team participated in EuPA 2025, the annual conference of the European Proteomics Association, hosted this year in Saint-Malo, France. This key event brought together the European proteomics and mass spectrometry community to exchange knowledge, showcase innovations, and strengthen collaborative research.

CircBioCare’s Mission: Biomarkers for Early OA Care
The CircBioCare project is focused on discovering circulating epigenetic and protein biomarkers for the early detection and personalised treatment of osteoarthritis (OA). EuPA 2025 provided the ideal stage to present our latest results, methods, and technological approaches in this space.

Oral Presentation by Betzabeth Pereira
CircBioCare researcher Betzabeth Pereira delivered an oral presentation titled: “Multimodal mass spectrometry unravels knee osteoarthritis pathways in a human infrapatellar fat pad ex vivo model.” Her talk highlighted how multimodal mass spectrometry approaches can reveal molecular mechanisms underlying OA and support the development of new diagnostic tools, reinforcing CircBioCare’s translational focus on early diagnostics. Her participation was partially supported by a Females in Mass Spectrometry (FeMS) Q2 2025 travel grant, which recognizes and supports the contributions of women in analytical sciences.

Poster Presentations by the CircBioCare Team
Several team members participated in EuPA with poster presentations, including Rimsha Saif, who presented:
“Advanced serum proteomics using SP3 Bravo and timsTOF Pro2 for osteoarthritis early biomarker identification and patient stratification.”
Her work demonstrated how cutting-edge proteomics tools are enabling deeper serum biomarker discovery and more precise patient profiling for OA.

    Strengthening Collaborations with Covaris
During the team participation, CircBioCare researchers also engaged in meaningful discussions with our partner Covaris, focused on advancing sample preparation workflows — a critical step in our biomarker discovery pipeline.

    An Inspiring Scientific Environment
EuPA 2025 featured keynote lectures from leading researchers, including:

    • Prof. Dr. med. habil. Tanja Bange, PhD Professor and Group Leader, Faculty of Medicine, LMU Munich
    • Pedro Beltrao, Associate Professor at the Department of Biology, ETH Zurich since Jan 2022. His research group studies the molecular sources of phenotypic novelties, exploring how DNA changes are propagated through structures and interactions to give rise to phenotypic variability.”
    • Carsten Hopf, associated Professor in the Medical and Biosciences Faculties of Heidelberg University and co-chair for “imaging” of the German Society for MS (DGMS).
    • Dr. Lindskog, research group leader and associate professor at the Department of Immunology, Genetics and Pathology, Cancer Precision Medicine unit, Uppsala University, Sweden

The CircBioCare team was energised by the collaborative atmosphere and the opportunity to share our mission with international colleagues working at the frontier of proteomics. You can learn more about our project here.
